Dormant Bitcoin from the coin’s early days has suddenly awakened after more than 15 years, Galaxy Research reported.

In an X post, Galaxy Research reported that 28.46 BTC, currently worth $2.43 million, of UTXOs untouched since first received on June 12, 2011, about 15.2 years ago, just moved in block 970281. Unspent Transaction Outputs, or UTXOs, represent specific amounts of Bitcoin that were received but not yet spent.

The wallet owner bought the said BTC at about $15 per BTC, giving the long-dormant holding a remarkable realized gain of about 582,198%, according to the tracking data.

The transaction involved the address 1EmiMJfyBYNYfeFZWEoXxJ9cZ7pF9xTWVt, with no sender attribution identified in the available database. Kraken was attributed as the recipient, suggesting the funds may have been sent to the exchange.

The coins attract attention because they date back to Bitcoin’s earliest years, just after the time when Satoshi Nakamoto was still active in the Bitcoin community between 2010 and early 2011. Bitcoin’s pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, exited the scene in April 2011, sending a final email stating, “I’ve moved on to other things” and leaving the project in the hands of core developers.

At the time of writing, Bitcoin was down 3.68% in the last 24 hours to $83,081 as the crypto market traded down in the Wednesday session as investors anticipated fresh economic releases. A total of $607.18 million was liquidated in positions across the crypto market, mostly longs ($541.14 million), while shorts came in at $66.22 million.

Investors are anticipating two key events on Wednesday, one of which is the FOMC meeting minutes, due at 2 p.m. ET, which will be assessed for potential insights on Fed monetary policy decision-making. At the Fed’s September meeting, policymakers voted to raise interest rates for the first time since 2023. Traders are now pricing in a 78% chance that the Fed might keep rates unchanged at its next meeting.

Bitcoin fell to a low of $82,787 early Wednesday, extending its drop from a high of $86,999 on October 5, 2026 into the third day.
